Scrap Art...

Scrap Art is not a side project.

It is an expression of something I have always believed: that creativity and resourcefulness are not separate from leadership and governance. They are reflections of the same instinct. The instinct to see what others overlook, to build something meaningful from what has been discarded, and to produce something that carries weight and beauty at the same time.

The Scrap Art Foundation, which I chair, works at the intersection of art, sustainability, and social impact. It uses scrap materials (things that would otherwise be discarded) to create works of art and to fund and support the creative development of young Nigerians.

Why it matters...

The Foundation reflects a principle that runs through all of my work: nothing of value is wasted. The same discipline that shapes good governance, the attention to what is often overlooked, the commitment to creating something durable from limited resources, applies here too.

Working with young artists and creatives through the Foundation has also reinforced something I believe about mentorship and leadership more broadly: people do not need permission to create. They need an environment that takes them seriously. That is what the Foundation tries to provide.

What the Foundation does...

The Scrap Art Foundation supports Nigerian artists working with reclaimed and repurposed materials, creating a platform for their work to be seen, shared, and valued. It also runs programmes that introduce young people to the creative possibilities within sustainability, finding ways to make the resource constraints that define their environment into a creative asset rather than a limitation.
